Nearly one-third of all IT organizations and 42% of the Global 2000 organizations planned to consolidate their purchases of infrastructure or application software in 2006. When the curtain falls, how will IBM fare? On the plus side, IBM offers the broadest portfolio of information management products of the Big Four players (IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP.) It also delivers a strong portfolio of middleware products designed to run applications. However, IBM has chosen not to offer conventional packaged applications for business processes, and it will not compete successfully there for clients' consolidated software business.
