Software-as-a-service (SaaS), a new model for software licensing and distribution, has created huge levels of hype as it wins market share and mindshare with IT and business buyers. However, many of the solutions are being driven from North America; while they may be discussed in Asia Pacific media and available to Asia Pacific customers through the Web, often the local-language access and support is not available — sometimes setting local customers up for failure. A thorough approach to purchasing SaaS will be required to ensure that sourcing and vendor management professionals understand the challenges at the outset.
