Apple vs Sony

With last week's debut of the Sony Connect music download service and yesterday's unveiling of Sony's long-awaited hard drive music player, it appears Apple has little to fear just yet. Sony Connect has been universally panned for lacking ease of use and standardized user rights and the awkwardly-named and styled Viao Pocket VGF-AP1 is a far cry from an iPod-killer. As the Washington Post eloquently declared, these are truly embarrassments from the company who created the Walkman.

Is it because the recorded music division of Sony holds too much sway (and is paranoid of the digital realm), or has Japan's CE poster child just lost its way? Either way it seems Apple's strategy is safe for now.
