I have to agree that it is time that we put more "business" into our jobs. Gone are the days were DP/MIS/IT folks sat in the dark closet lit only by the glow of a CRT tube cranking out code that (hopefully) matched the needs of the clients who requested it. Now, we're involved in Business Process Improvements, providing automation where it's sorely needed, and to do all this, we have to be much more saavy about the business we're all in. Whether it be Healthcare, Banking, or making Cars.... Companies don't run these days without computers. Talk to anyone who experienced a disaster in the last few years, and just ask them how helpless they felt without their email system!!
While "Business Technology" is a good step in the right direction, I believe it's only a matter of time that "Technology" becomes the least important part of our jobs. I've been in the IT world for 30+ years now, and I've seen some amazing changes. I've seen suggestions about calling the new department Business Intelligence, and the old moniker of Management Information Systems (MIS). Maybe a new term would be Business Information Management (BIM)?? That's really where we're all going, right? Managing the vast amount of Information for our Businesses.
