how about a less technology centric view

While it doesn't really mater how we call the function, changing it from IT to BT doesn't really change a lot since it keeps the old way of technology centric thinking. Replacing the first part of the acronym is the old way of thinking. Changes should happen at the second part of the acronym. Information is not less valuable to businesses today than it was in the past, rather the opposite. It is technology which has become more of a commodity. And IT organization feel it in a way that they look at information flows not only from a technology point of view but a business process view which can include also manual parts of a process. So replacing information is not what has to change, the shift has to be on the technology side, it is about how we handle, manage, optimize the use of information for the end users which is important.
