Hi George,
I am an IESE MBA student with seven years experience in the software industry. I like a lot the BT term you introduced but I see it as a (business) complement to the IT function rather than a replacement. My view is the following. On one hand, BT covers technology-driven business projects. These projects are driven by customer needs, market changes, increased competition... The decisions to go for such projects are mainly driven by business considerations. On the other hand, IT builds the company IS backbone which enable BT projects to deliver their true potential. IT deciders need to make crucial long-term decisions on technology investment which may impact the company business for many years in the future. Without an effective IT strategy, BT will remain a concept and fail to deliver its promises.
