The name, Business Technology, elevates every area of the systems of technologies augmenting every technologist with business ownership and partnership. Support functions as business support technology owners, Project Managers as Project Business Managers and Chief Information Officers as Chief Business Technologist gives every technological area of the business the opportunity to become an owned and operated entity by technologists responsible for implementation, deployment, support, to create new streams of revenue, new ways to generate profit.
Business technologists working shoulder to shoulder with every business unit creates the opportunity for the Business Technology professional to prepare and present financial statements along with the financial analyst. BT professionals can adequately identify cost drivers, cost buckets, activity costs and activity budgets which accountants will work with easily.
As projects are capitalized, the Business Technologist will be capable of preparing project financial statements, benchmarking projections against true financial instruments. If a 5 year treasury note yields a 4 % return, the BT professional has a realistic measure in forecasting precise yields on a project for which the BT has ownership and is responsible.
For every computer setup and installation by a Business support technologist for a new sales hire, the percentage increase in sales that the sales hire achieves, the business support technologist can measure as a percentage of his or her performance.
Vendors projecting specific ROI for products can work side by side with a Business Technologist and quantify together through systematic analysis how an ROI projection is derived. The validated measurement will give the Chief Business Technologist a precise picture of how a product is a profit-generating purchase or not.
Market segments penetrated during a product launch which generated additional revenue for the business, where the BT professional supported the product launch through web technology can calculate the cost of the good sold, the price, and the number of items purchased during a specific period as a percentage of that BT professional¿s percentage of contribution to the profit margin, particularly if the BT added a profit generating feature to the Web/customer interface.
The Business Technologist becomes a partner with the Chief Business Technologist, an owner of the business processes that are aligned with the business. This is true integration providing unlimited support to the business, increasing profits and generating revenue. Real service, real shareholder value, real world.
