I know I come late to this discussion about IT should be BT, and I apologize if any of these thoughts have been covered elsewhere.
Interviewing a sales focused position this morning, I drew a parallel to the use of a scalpel by a competent surgeon. IT is the scalpel. BT is the experience, knowledge and best judgement of when and how to use it. This translates to better software, problem based solutioning and execution focused goal of treating the patient (the business). The end result is a better and more dynamic relationship with the customer. It is truly what we designed our business to be, and although small, have an exceptionally loyal customer base. Diagnose their business problem as it relates to IT-BT issues, propose tactical solutions to help convert their IT-BT from Expense category to working asset...again.
