A long time ago (maybe 20 years ago?) an Analyst was a Programmer looking for a pay raise. Are we doing the same now with BT for IT? So far, it appears that Business does not understand Information Technology and the people who practice IT do not understand how IT can actually help a business. We still see justifications based on labour savings. Obviously we did not learn anything from the experience with the various accounting (and now the ERP) systems deployments.

We still see job ads where a Business Analyst's primary qualification is the technology rather than the business.
