As we merge ourselves into the social network and become nano-resources in that global conversation network, the lines between our work/real-life and virtual existence blend. The CIO of tomorrow (make that today) will also have to be aware of that 'outside' influence and how it pulls the supply that is being offered toward the demand that is actually desired. He/she will become the Information Network Officer (or Informal Network Official, etc) with their finger on the pulse of almost every facet of business communication.
