Enterprise Portals & Search

An evolution of the intranet, enterprise portals tie multiple, heterogeneous internal repositories and applications as well as external content sources and services together into a single browser-based view that is individualized to a particular user's task or role. For example, the employees in sales and marketing have information on customers, prospects, competitive intelligence, and marketing collateral in their browser view, while those in HR have resume data, skills management, benefits administration, etc. in their view. This is not to imply that this content resides in silos or that the company information is segregated, but it is a way of delivering more relevant content in context.
