Greetings!

I hope you are enjoying the summer. Since the September 26 meeting will be here before we know it, we recently held a conference call to discuss topics for the upcoming NYC gathering. The meeting will be held just prior to Forrester's Consumer Forum 2005, "Innovating In A Consumer-Driven World."

Based on group consensus, we will plan to discuss the following topics at the September 26 meeting. A draft agenda will be sent to you in the coming weeks. As always, any input and feedback is gladly accepted, as this is your meeting!

  • Socializing the database: Case studies from industry leaders: How leading companies are using customer knowledge across business units. Strategies for "selling" the database, or database marketing, up and across the organization as many groups struggle with getting the ear of C-level executives.
  • Loyalty: process and methodologies: What influences measurement? How have companies monetized a loyalty program?
  • Best practices for campaign management: How to get more precise levels of metrics. What are examples of successful campaigns? What were successful and unsuccessful campaigns (e.g., basis for audience selection)? How others have found an appropriate balance between precise targeting and manageable quantities of segments/versions.
  • Career development and training of the "database marketer": A review of members' best practices to staff and maintain a highly functional database marketing team.

Next CouncilTel: August 11 at 2 p.m. Eastern time
Please note that our next CouncilTel is slated for Thursday, August 11, at 2 p.m. Eastern time. US Bank's Abbas Merchant will kick off a group discussion on different approaches for chargeback pricing in a centralized database marketing group environment. We will look at the pros and cons of the following chargeback models:
  • Transfer pricing
  • Pricing per project
  • Budgeted pricing structures

Please let me know if you can attend and if you have any additional questions you would like to have the group consider ahead of the call.

As always, if you have any questions, need assistance with a project, or would just like to bounce an idea off another Council member, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am here to help!

Best regards,

Justin Bruton
Council Manager
