Seasons Greetings!

I hope these last few weeks of the quarter are going well for all of you. It's been quite a productive year, and I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to work with each of you on the Database Marketing Council.

2006 is shaping up to be another great year for direct marketers according to a front page story at Direct Magazine (please see "Big Spenders" by Richard H. Levey). A recent survey of their readers found budgets on the rise as companies continue to shift dollars and resources toward direct channels. I was at NCDM last week and there was a definite buzz about new technologies and processes to make database marketers' lives easier -- and that's a gift I'm sure we would all appreciate this season.

2006 Topic Voting
During our recent CouncilTel, we reviewed a list of potential topics for Council discussions in 2006. I would like to ask your assistance in determining the priority and sequence of the calls based on member preference. Please take a few moments to answer this short Web-based survey and help set the course for our discussions next year. This will take no longer than five minutes. Please
click here to take the survey.

As follow up to our recent Council discussion on staffing issues and best practices, I have placed the call slides in the
Member Library on the Council home page. The deck includes additional information on database marketing's four core skill sets (marketing, analytical, technical, and operational). Please see slides 12-34 ("The Anatomy of Database Marketing Organizations") for material on responsibilities, job descriptions, and sample org structures. The discussion summary will be provided shortly.

As always, if you have any questions, need assistance with a project, or would just like to bounce an idea off another Council member, please don't hesitate to contact either Jonah or me. We're here to help!

Best regards,

Justin Bruton
Council Manager
