Michael A. Carter is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is responsible for Church information security and compliance, including religious, educational, humanitarian, and other programs.
As a Church employee, he has been the Business Information Security Officer (BISO) for the Church finance and records department, international controller at Church Headquarters and in the Pacific Islands Area, and director of operations (and CIO and CFO) for the worldwide missionary training centers.
In addition to Church employment, he has been a managing partner of a management and information technology consulting firm, an engineering manager at IBM, a senior consultant at Sequent Computer Systems, and an intelligence analyst for the US Defense Intelligence Agency.
Mr. Carter is a recognized expert in enterprise IT management and information security, compliance, and risk. He has received numerous professional, academic, civic, and other honors and is the author or co-author of four books. He has served as an officer and member of several national IT risk and security organizations.
He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Privacy Professional/IT (CIPP/IT), and Certified Systems Administrator (CSA).
