Duet Won't Be A One-Hit Wonder

Long-Term Road Map Will Resonate With Customers

by Rob Koplowitz

with Merv Adrian, Shelby Semmes

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

Microsoft and SAP have announced an extended road map for their joint product Duet, which provides access to SAP data and processes natively from within Microsoft Office. With support for new business scenarios, additional languages, Office 2007, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007), the product will continue to grow and provide more value to more organizations. More importantly, the announcement emphasizes the fact that the relationship and the product will be long-term and strategic to both firms. Duet, which currently requires SAP NetWeaver, will add MOSS as a prerequisite in a future release. While this alignment with core Microsoft and SAP technologies is a positive for future product development, it will require some planning and alignment with overall middleware strategy within your organization.
