ASN.1 Flaws Aren't New Or Unique To Microsoft

by Laura Koetzle

with Galen Schreck, Stephan Wenninger, Michael Rasmussen

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

ASN.1 holds the communications world together. Microsoft last week produced a patch for a critical flaw in its implementation of ASN.1, but Microsoft isn't the only software maintainer affected; researchers have been unearthing ASN.1-related problems since 2001. Working exploits exist — thus, users must patch Windows now and expect ASN.1-related fixes from other software maintainers soon.
