In a survey of 1,383 technology decision-makers at North American and European enterprises, we found that despite a cautious outlook for their businesses, companies are planning to open their wallets for IT in 2005. On average, North American enterprises expect to increase their IT spend by 3.9% in 2005, up from 1.7% when surveyed this time last year. Which technology categories stand to gain the most? Security remains a hot issue, but deploying a major application software package is a priority at 59% of enterprises. Finance and business intelligence apps will receive much of the attention, and consultants will benefit as well — especially from large enterprises looking for integration help. Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory compliance will further drive up spending on storage and content management.
