The Mind Of The DVR User: Acquisition And Features

DVR User Survey Reveals Infectious Enthusiasm

This is the first document in the "Inside The Mind Of The DVR User" series.

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

As our survey of 588 users of all types of digital video recorders (DVRs) reveals, people love their DVRs with unbridled passion. Half said the device improved their enjoyment of life; the average respondent has already shown his DVR to seven other people. While today's DVR users are mainstream consumers, they're off the charts on satellite TV subscriptions and ownership of a wide variety of electronics. Even as DVR vendors like TiVo work on fancy features, DVR users express the most enthusiasm for the simplest benefits — recording programs easily, pausing live TV, and skipping commercials. Since today's DVR users represent the vanguard of a rapidly growing phenomenon, the industry should take note: Cable operators should make DVRs a key part of digital cable, while electronics vendors should tie DVRs to a whole-home electronics strategy.
