The Sun Java System comprises Sun's Java Enterprise System platform and its matching Java Studio Enterprise development environment. The JES platform was the only product in the evaluation that doesn't provide development tools or a runtime platform for flow-based applications, which are key shortcomings compared with competitors' products. The platform's strong support of Java standards in its tooling and platform provides a high degree of portability and openness for the functions it provides, but makes automated business process development complex and expensive.
