Europe's Unique Enterprise Apps Evolution

Europe Diverges From The US In Enterprise Apps Experience And Expectations

by George Lawrie

with Andrew Parker, Kim Le Quoc

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

European firms have different priorities and constraints from North American firms; this will drive the enterprise apps landscape across the two regions in different directions over the next decade. Cautious Europeans, with fragmented legacy enterprise apps, believe that SAP supports apps consolidation at a lower cost than alternative providers. European firms will be more willing than those in North America to trade the flexibility of a "do-it-yourself" approach for the security of standardized business patterns. But as Europeans choose to reduce their options to a single provider of industry-standard apps, they will have to keep a much closer watch on maintenance service costs from their vendor than their North American counterparts will.
