What Hyades Means For IBM, Its Customers, And Its Competitors

by Carey Schwaber

with Mike Gilpin, Carl Zetie

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

The Hyades project — an outgrowth of the Eclipse project — is the wheel that testing tools vendors have historically had to reinvent, each in its own unique way. Hyades is an open source testing framework with facilities for tools that manage and execute functional and load testing and analyze application usage. By the end of the year, IBM/Rational will have re-engineered its own line of testing tools around Hyades. Other testing tool vendors will follow suit, and the result will be better tool integration, easier tool customization, increased tool choice, and less vendor lock-in. This will be a boon for users and a force for change in the industry.
