The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently launched a Web-based tool, Hospital Compare, to publicly provide consumers with information on hospital quality. This effort is part of CMS' larger initiative to make hospital quality more transparent to consumers. While the tool does an average job of presenting the quality information, it lacks the robust data found in commercially available products and leaves consumers fumbling with insufficient help.
