SunGard Dominates The US Market In Disaster Recovery Services

The Forrester Wave™ Vendor Summary, Q1 2006

by Colin Rankine

with Simon Yates, Thomas Powell

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

SunGard has the greatest presence in the US market by a large margin, and it has a very substantial presence in Western Europe as well. Consistent with the SunGard business model, much of this growth has come via acquisition. The result is that for large organizations with recovery site strategies based on a commercial "hot site," SunGard is a premier recovery services provider and has the broadest — and in many cases deepest — inventory of hardware assets. For clients requiring any substantial mainframe capacity, SunGard is the only alternative to IBM, and for organizations with large, diverse computing environments, SunGard may be the only viable service provider. This reality is not lost on the vendor: Access to SunGard's vast resources and considerable experience is often saddled with challenging contract and pricing terms.
