Build Your Privacy Program: Communication

This is the fourth document in the "Privacy Program" series.

by Michael Rasmussen

with Jennifer Albornoz Mulligan, Sarah Bernhardt

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

Once you have developed your goals, staffed your team, and agreed on policies and procedures, it's time to communicate your privacy game plan to your employees and your customers. Take care to write clear policies that are easily understood by all employees regardless of their primary languages and geographic locations. Go beyond simple publication and engage your employees in dialogue about privacy from the moment you hire them — begin helping them understand their role in privacy during your new employee training sessions. Present your privacy strategy and protections to your customers, and look at their inquiries as opportunities to better understand their needs. Finally, look for successful strategies from your marketing department to help people who may not be considering privacy in their daily activities learn and adhere to privacy guidelines.
