Web Services Specifications: Management

When To Use Which Web Services Management Specifications

This is the sixth document in the "Status Of SOA And Web Services Specifications" series.

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

Web services adoption continues, but it is taking a long time to work out all of the specifications and standards. According to data from recent Forrester surveys, as yet, there is little support for Web services management specs from vendors or users. Even though Web Services for Distributed Management (WSDM) is already a standard, there is high uncertainty in the specs due to the confusion posed by the alternative WS-Management spec. The Web services harmonization plan from Hewlett-Packard (HP), IBM, Intel, and Microsoft intends to resolve the confusion and create a single specification from the two, but so far, only three vendors are committed to the specifications that will result from this effort.
