Open Solutions Alliance Pursues Application Integration

by Michael Goulde

with Henry Peyret, Katie Smillie

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

On February 13, 2007, several service and integration companies working with open source software formed a new consortium, the Open Solution Alliance, to facilitate integration and foster adoption of open-source-based solutions. A few years ago, several open source startups created business models around integrating stacks of open source software but found that application development professionals required greater flexibility in choosing the components of a stack. The OSA intends to provide guidance, recommend standards, and identify best practices so that integration and interoperability using open source is easy and cost-effective. To achieve its goal, the group will have to attract broad support and provide tangible and actionable deliverables, not just marketing messages.
