Survey Ranks Broad SOA Governance Practices Above Detailed Practices

This is the third document in the "SOA Governance Survey 2009" series.

Executive Summary (This is a document excerpt)

A recent Forrester survey showed that SOA governance increases SOA satisfaction and that each of 12 different SOA governance practices has a positive correlation with higher SOA satisfaction. Which of the 12 should SOA users focus on first? Our survey respondents ranked broad, cross-project governance practices as more valuable than detailed, project-level oversight. So, even though detailed oversight is important, as architects plan for and guide their organization with SOA, they should focus first on SOA governance practices that guide the organization as a whole. As these broader practices become established, they should then move on to project-level governance practices.
