Laurie Orlov
Forrester Research


Research Focus

As vice president and principal analyst, Laurie provides thought leadership for CIOs on the CIO-business relationship. She is widely recognized for her guidance and research on how CEOs view IT, IT communication and marketing, and IT's role in business innovation. Laurie was one of the key drivers of Forrester's definitions about IT maturity, IT archetypes, and how to communicate about IT with business execs and the board of directors. During her nine years at Forrester, she has led business applications, information delivery, and IT leadership practices.

Her research focuses on IT-business alignment, communicating and marketing the value and benefit of IT, characteristics of leading IT organizations, and how IT can boost its role and reputation in an enterprise. She has authored several Forrester Big Ideas, including: "The Three Archetypes Of IT," "The Economics Of IT," and "Organic Information Abstraction."

Previous Work Experience

Prior to joining Forrester, Laurie held senior IT management positions in various high-tech companies, most recently as a CIO, driving the implementation of eCommerce-based ERP solutions for a midmarket PC reseller. During her lengthy information technology career, Laurie was also responsible for IT projects for sales, marketing, and customer service.Laurie has been widely quoted in the press, including CIO Magazine, Computerworld, InformationWeek, and CIO Decisions. She speaks regularly to IT audiences and has delivered keynote speeches at Forrester forums, as well as industry consortia, conferences, and symposia. In 1996, Laurie was named to McGraw-Hill/Open Computing's list of the top 100 women in computing.

Education

Laurie holds a B.A. in music from the University of Rochester and has participated in numerous executive training programs.
