Description

In the early part of this decade, many vendors rolled out public key infrastructure (PKI) and mobile banking solutions to great fanfare. Unfortunately, the time was not ripe for either technology and, after some high-profile failures, both receded into the shadows for several years. But now both of these technologies have matured considerably, and vendors are discovering innovative ways to combine the two to confer significant benefits on the financial services industry. In particular, mobile/wireless PKI implementations can add a high level of security to mobile and Internet banking, mobile payments, eCommerce, and a host of other applications.

Agenda

  • Mobile phones have been gaining traction in recent years as a tool to authenticate end users to online and mobile commercial applications.
  • PKI and mobile banking have both reached a state of technological maturity, and now they're combining via mobile/wireless PKI.
  • As mobile commerce grows and expands, so will the need to ensure that customers and banks/merchants know that they're communicating with the right person in a secure manner.
  • Mobile PKI allows customers to generate legally binding digital signatures on mobile phones, enabling service providers to open up new revenue streams over the mobile channel.

Vendors mentioned: Entrust, Firethorn, Gemalto, Valimo Wireless, and VASCO.
