Description
Financial institutions seeking to expand online and mobile banking to their entire customer base face challenges of balancing security with usability. Many banks feel trapped between the requirements of regulations like FFIEC to implement strong authentication and the often inconvenient ways of doing it. Fearing both customer churn due to security that is effective but onerous and the wrath of regulators for doing nothing, they often compromise on a method that ticks the boxes on audit sheets but fails to completely deliver on the security end. But several vendors are now leveraging the near-ubiquity of mobile phones to provide a range of secure, effective, and convenient methods of customer authentication. Mobile authentication promises to be the linchpin that will hold together online banking, mobile banking, and mobile payments in a method that marries security with convenience.
