We currently have a large outdoor area where 802.11 is providing network connectivity to mobile devices. The site would like to increase the number of end devices, broaden coverage, maintain performance and remain wireless. They are looking at a private WiMax solution by Alvarion, and we were curious if there is another wireless technology that could be used. Or is WiMax the preferred solution? Also, is Alvarion a solid solution? Our concern is this: Will WiMax for private enterprise use be around a while? Will there be upgrades, or do we get what is available now and that is it?
