This Workshop teaches you the information you need to begin SOA implementation efforts within your organization. Gain an understanding of the current state of SOA technology and the key approaches to SOA implementation. Learn to gauge the readiness of your organization to effectively implement SOA while being aware of the key staffing issues related to SOA, so that you may develop a plan for proceeding with an SOA implementation in your organization.

During this full day of presentations, hands-on exercises, and discussions, Forrester analysts teach you how to:

• Establish an actionable SOA road map. SOA requires investments across multiple areas of maturity. An effective strategy for SOA requires a clear understanding of SOA and an intelligent, evolutionary approach to building SOA maturity. This workshop provides the foundation for setting an actionable, "street-level strategy" for SOA.
   
• Collaborate with your organization. For SOA, you must implement processes to support and integrate the management of your service portfolio, address skill gaps, and determine best practices. Discuss the roles and skill requirements necessary to build a strong team, and connect to your organization for SOA success.
   
 
• Articulate the benefits of SOA. Re-use is an important aspect of SOA value, but it is not the major part. Case studies throughout the Workshop provide examples from which to build your case for SOA by assessing the areas of IT value for your SOA-based solutions and understanding their impact on your business.
   
• Build a strong platform for SOA. Although there are several useful categories of SOA specialty products — enterprise service buses, SOA management, SOA appliances, repositories, registries, SOA life-cycle management — many firms start with what they have now and build from there. A clear understanding of when and how you are ready for any given specialty product is the foundation of a strong SOA platform strategy — one that you build out over time, paid for by real-world solution projects.
