In 2013, Forrester identified an emerging market of data stewardship tools to give data stewards and governance teams a workbench to support data management and data governance. While workflows, collaboration, reporting, and policy and rule management functionality began appearing in data management tools for data quality, metadata management, and master data management, the capabilities of these early tools still aligned to tech objectives, not business outcomes. In 2014, true workbenches for business data stewards began to appear.
