Summary

Microsoft's new Azure App Service combines three formerly separate development platforms — Azure Websites, Mobile Services, and BizTalk Services — and adds a fourth, creating four linked services to simplify development and delivery of applications on public clouds. Azure App Service addresses three vexing aspects of modern cloud applications for application development and delivery (AD&D) pros: 1) It unifies three previously separate but related platforms under common subscription and operational management policies; 2) it simplifies the creation, consumption, and orchestration of APIs, potentially the most complex aspect of modern apps; and 3) it establishes a straightforward method of aggregating data and logic in a public cloud for developer access. This report outlines the impact of this new application platform on Azure for application development and delivery professionals.
