This is an excerpt
IT spending in the enterprise market is set for modest growth over the next 12 months. European firms' spending will increase by a modest average of 2.9%, with massive differences between countries: Nordic execs plan to increase their spend by 7.5%, while German and Austrian firms will decrease it by 2.2%. In this cautious environment, only a few technology areas will generate solid enterprise demand. On the hardware side, PC purchase and refresh cycles will expand to four or even five years, with HP and Dell doing most of the work for the 21% of firms with PC renewal plans. However, firms will show strong interest in VPN and VoIP implementations, and almost one-third of the firms that plan to invest in VoIP will look for hosted solutions. Security spending will remain strong, together with renewed interest in data warehousing technologies. From an application perspective, almost 30% of firms will consider BI software and more than one-third will look at automating their back-office processes. App development outsourcing will also show positive signs of strong spending.
