Forrester's recent survey of executives responsible for IT spending decisions shows that doing more with less remains the dominant enterprisewide theme for government agencies in 2006, despite healthier government coffers from the rising economy. The leading technology themes for 2006? Security, infrastructure consolidation, and significant upgrades to disaster recovery capabilities top government IT executives' agendas. Forrester's data also shows that government IT executives are most frequently directing budget increases toward implementing Web applications and eliminating legacy systems. The biggest differentiator between government and nongovernment IT spending is that government managers are less likely to direct funds to new development and emerging technology R&D.
