Apache Geronimo achieved an important milestone at the beginning of 2006 when it shipped Release 1.0. The project leveraged other open source projects, including many other Apache Software Foundation technologies, to deliver this J2EE 1.4-compliant application server. The project has already been adopted by IBM as a component of its WebSphere product line. Geronimo's Apache 2.0 license and modular architecture provide an advantage over other open source and commercial Java application servers. Companies that want a J2EE 1.4 standard-compliant, open source, flexibly configurable Java application server should seriously consider Apache Geronimo.
