Executive Summary

Industry analyst relations (AR) teams prove their value to business management through the use of performance metrics. However, these metrics are only meaningful if they truly indicate direct achievement against AR's formal business objectives. Unfortunately, a Forrester survey of AR teams showed that many of the respondents selected metrics without regard for their business objectives. Consequently, they gain low value from the measurement overhead, fail to demonstrate their successes, and can't plan to resolve weaknesses reliably either. AR professionals must know how to choose and use the metrics that explicitly gauge success against formal objectives, and in this report, we will present a simple method that AR professionals can use to identify them.
