Consumers Rate Financial Institutions' Online Fraud And Privacy Protection

by Bruce D. Temkin

with Eric M. Dolan, Adele Sage

This is an excerpt

Executive Summary

Most consumers give their financial institutions passing grades when it comes to protecting their assets from online fraud and protecting the privacy of their personal information. But the consumers who don't feel as well protected are less satisfied with their banks, brokerages, and insurers and are less likely to buy another product from those providers. The effect is particularly acute for brokerages. When financial institutions address this issue, they need to keep in mind that consumers' perception of protection may not match the reality of the situation.
