As cable rolls out DVRs, penetration will double this year to 7% and rise to 44% by 2009. In contrast to today's affluent, technology-optimistic DVR owners, the next generation of DVR households will be distinguished only by their affinity for television. Even as networks and advertisers are forced to grapple with DVR ad-skipping, consumer electronics companies will use OpenCable to push out new DVR-capable devices.
