Business intelligence (BI) remains a top priority for many enterprises, but delivering successful BI capabilities goes far beyond just the tools and enabling technologies. Historically, foundational BI best practices in data governance, data quality management, and the adoption of BI solutions centers have either been ignored or deemed as only "nice to have" relative to the focus on technology implementation. To gauge the current maturity of the adoption of these best practices, In August 2008, Forrester surveyed 82 business intelligence (BI) practitioners. The survey results provide an optimistic signal that IT professionals charged with delivering BI capabilities understand the need to prioritize these organizational and process-centric best practices as the critical path to delivering business value through BI.
