Executive Summary

While smartphones like Apple's iPhone, the BlackBerry Storm, and T-Mobile's Android-based MyTouch get all the attention, another category of mobile phones has quietly been accelerating its market share: the quick messaging device. These keyboard and/or touchscreen devices have much of the functionality of a smartphone but lack the high-level (and in some cases costly) operating system. Quick messaging device owners are valuable subscribers who deliver above-average revenue and offer multiple growth prospects in the future for consumer product strategists at mobile operators, handset makers, and application developers.
