Element-Level Storage Management Nears Standardization

Executive Summary

Yesterday, HP announced its intent to acquire storage management startup AppIQ, whose software HP will rebrand as HP Storage Essentials. AppIQ has become well-known for its standards-based management of multivendor storage area networks (SAN), and it previously inked a large number of partnerships and OEM agreements with major storage vendors that included Engenio, Hitachi, StorageTek, and Sun, as well as HP itself. Forrester believes that this is good news for both HP and non-HP storage customers, because it's a major win for heterogeneous storage management overall.
