Yesterday, HP announced its intent to acquire storage management startup AppIQ, whose software HP will rebrand as HP Storage Essentials. AppIQ has become well-known for its standards-based management of multivendor storage area networks (SAN), and it previously inked a large number of partnerships and OEM agreements with major storage vendors that included Engenio, Hitachi, StorageTek, and Sun, as well as HP itself.
