by Bill Martorelli

Executive Summary

IBM enjoys significant market size by virtue of its frequently bundled approach to the market, encompassing information technology outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO). A large consulting capability and broad geographic footprint provide ample opportunity for hosting and disaster recovery. IBM is not viewed as being highly price-competitive, and it has a reputation among clients for inflexibility in contract terms. However, its capabilities are vast, and it has a recognized strength in enterprise packages and the ability to wield domain competency that qualify it in the largest AO deals. However, IBM is not averse to smaller staff augmentation deals, particularly if there is significant potential for growth.
