Executive Summary

Identity and access management (IAM) continues to be a major topic of interest for security professionals. Between July 2007 and June 2008, Forrester's security and risk management team fielded 1,798 inquiries on a variety of topics — 291 of which were from IT clients interested in IAM. The most commonly asked inquiries were related to authentication and authorization products and the current IAM market. Security professionals expressed a high interest in understanding the trends and best practices for multifactor and strong authentication, enterprise single sign-on (E-SSO), vendor selection, and identity management products. Although products have evolved a great deal during the past 12 months, a fair amount of integration challenges remain — on both the product suite and the implementation side.
