Enterprises are quickly becoming mobile on all fronts. Inside the enterprise, wireless networks are covering more physical space. Outside, cellular voice and data networks are making up a greater portion of IT spend. The end result is an increasingly large mobile user populace within the enterprise and a continuing push for a more seamless mobile experience. Forrester recommends that organizations augmenting or upgrading VPN and other access technology consider a multinetwork-capable mobile access solution. Such an investment will allow users to transparently, seamlessly, and securely roam across multiple networks to access corporate assets, applications, and tools. Mobile VPNs are currently a niche technology marketed to highly mobile markets and organizations. But enterprises are shifting investment to network vendors that allow IT to harness the power of connectivity across mobile networks. While current solutions are primarily from niche vendors, mobile operations teams should consider this a critical component of any VPN-based remote access solution as the use of multiple networks proliferates within their organization.
