Forrester's biannual review of the key events in the IT services and outsourcing market reveals how providers are responding to the severe macroeconomic conditions and continuing their transformation in an industry being fundamentally changed by new constituencies of buyers and suppliers. In H1 2009, we tracked 139 different activities across the four core categories of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), partnerships, new services and solutions, as well as changes in go-to-market and delivery strategies. This level of activity is significantly down from the comparative period in 2008 and slightly down from H2 2008, indicating just how frozen the market became in late 2008 and early 2009. Providers are undoubtedly feeling the effects of the recession, and their innovation efforts are taking a toll, with a current focus on product innovation as opposed to generating new business models and partnerships.
