Hard-coded authorizations in applications are hard to manage — they are difficult and expensive to constantly change to follow changing business requirements. Entitlement management (EM) products allow organizations to centrally manage and enforce business authorizations across multiple lines of business applications, improving effectiveness and reducing the cost of enforcing segregation of duties violations and strengthening the security. The market of EM is maturing — almost all major identity and access management (IAM) vendors provide EM solutions, and there is a healthy vibe of smaller specialist firms focusing on SharePoint policy enforcement and audit. Forrester expects EM to integrate into IAM and data leak prevention (DLP) in the long term.
