A recent Forrester survey shows that the next two years are likely to be slower for PC refresh than the last two and that firms' plans to deploy Vista are more conservative than they were a year ago. With XP migrations coming to a close, for the first time firms have a single, stable client operating system that meets their users' needs. Microsoft has a lot riding on the Vista release — expected in late 2006 — but it must overcome "upgrade apathy." The company hopes to persuade firms that opt for Open and Select volume licensing agreements that do not include Software Assurance (SA) to upgrade and must convince customers that the features of the platform are compelling enough to warrant an upgrade from XP.
