Executive Summary

Oracle's announcement that it would acquire Agile Software, a product life cycle management (PLM) vendor, closes a major gap in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) titan's functional application portfolio and strategically positions it in the PLM game. While Oracle and Agile customers will both benefit from the deal, the reaction to Oracle's enterprisewide PLM vision will be mixed among existing Agile users. Although Oracle has earned a good reputation for supporting acquired products, customers running Agile applications on non-Oracle ERP platforms should still lobby to have long-term support for their PLM software guaranteed as a standalone solution.
